COMMODORE OLU ABEGUNDE (rtd) DSS, psc+, fwc+, B.Sc, MLS, mni
Commodore Olu Abegunde (rtd), hails from Aisegba in Gbonyin Local Government of Ekiti State. He attended University of Ibadan and graduated with a B.Sc honours degree 2nd Class Lower in Geography (1972).
The Commodore (Cdre) worked briefly in the Federal Ministry of Education from June 1972 – November 1974. He was seconded to the then North-Eastern State as Education Officer and taught in schools in Maiduguri, Bauchi and Yola.
After his brief stint in the civil service, he joined the Nigerian Navy and was commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant in the Education Branch on 13 November 1974. While in the Nigerian Navy, Cdre Abegunde attended several courses both in Nigeria and overseas, some of which include:
The Cdre had a distinguished career in the Navy spanning a period of about thirty years with several military honours. He was at various times Staff Officer Education, at Command and Naval Headquarters (NHQ), Command Education Officer, Western and Eastern Commands, Pioneer Principal Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Lagos (1982 – 83), and later Commandant (1993 – 95), Navy Librarian (1995 – 96), Ag Director, Naval Education (1997) Directing Staff, Armed Forces, Command and Staff College, Jaji (1984 – 87) and was a Directing Staff, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), for Executive Course 21 (1999), Directing Staff, National War College, Abuja (2000-1) and later Director of Academic Research and Analytical Support (DARAS) (2000-03). He was awarded Fellow of the National War College Dagger (fwc+).
At various times in his career, Cdre Abegunde represented the Nigerian Navy in the following as:
Member, National Council on Education (1987 – 1992)
Member National Library Board (1990 – 1995)
Member, Board of Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Oshodi (1990 – 1994)

He specialized in Security and Strategy and had delivered Papers at Workshops and Seminars both in Nigeria and overseas.
The Commodore has widely travelled in countries of Africa, Europe, North and South America and Asia. He retired on December 31, 2003 and he is presently engaged in Training and Community Service.
He is married to Dcns Adebola Abegunde (Nee Shobowale), former Registrar University of Lagos and presently, Registrar McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State. The marriage is blessed with four adult children and nine grandchildren.
