Professor Kayode Oguntuashe took a degree in Psychology at the University of Lagos (Unilag) in 1973, coming top of his class with an award of the Dean’s prize. Invited by the University to pursue a career in academics, he went up to the University of Edinburgh in UK in 1975 and earned a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology 1980. Thereafter, he returned to his alma mater where he embarked on teaching, research and community service until he retired in 2012. He is currently on contract appointment as Professor of Psychology in the Faculty of Management Sciences at the National Open University of Nigeria.
While at Unilag, he was involved in basic research in Cognitive and Language Development, Social Skills including inter-personal skills and also constructed vocational, aptitude tests and diagnostic tools for intervention purposes in the management of childhood dysfunctions.
At the managerial level, Prof. Oguntuashe has served on several management committees both at the University and outside of it. Within the University he has been Head of Psychology Department, Director of the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE), Director of the Centre for Social Research and Public Policy (CSRP) among others. Outside of the University, he was Executive Director, National Council for Population Activities (NCPA), National Secretary, University of Lagos Alumni Association, General Secretary, and Vice-President, Nigerian Psychological Association.
Professor Oguntuashe has assisted the Federal Government in drafting at least two National Policies, one on Youth Development , the other on the Integrated Early Childhood Care and Development policy. He has held consultancy positions in UNICEF, World Bank, NERDC, FME etc.
